What is Chiropractic?

Chiropractic is a primary health-care profession that specialises in the diagnosis, treatment and overall management of conditions that are due to problems with the joints, ligaments, tendons and nerves, especially related to the spine. (British Chiropractic Association)

Chiropractic is

Doctors of Chiropractic locate misalignments in the spine that lead to malfunction of joints and nervous tissue.

Most conditions are treated with chiropractic adjustments, a form of manual therapy which is a safe, often gentle, specific spinal manipulation to joints in the spine or other areas of the body that are not moving properly.

Chiropractors also use a number of other techniques such as exercises, massage, heat and ice, acupuncture, and ultra sound, as well as offering advice about posture, gait and lifestyle. Many patients are given stretches and exercises to do at home. These will often play an active and important role in their treatment and aid quicker, long-term, recovery.

You don’t need to bring anything specific with you and you can wear your normal everyday clothes.
Is Chiropractic safe? Will it hurt?
Chiropractic is a non-invasive therapy and is very safe when performed by a registered chiropractor. Your chiropractor will take a medical history and give you a thorough examination to assess what your specific needs are and what the best treatment plan will be for you. The chiropractor will only adjust you if it is appropriate to do so. Generally, chiropractic adjustments do not hurt, however there may be a moment of mild discomfort following an adjustment as the muscles start to relax. There should be no cause for concern.
Is Chiropractic suitable for children or pregnant women?
Yes. We treat a vast range of patients, from new born babies to heavily pregnant women. Treatment is adjusted accordingly.
Will I have to have an X-ray or MRI?
Not all patients require imaging. If X-rays or MRIs are needed, we will refer you to the correct facility.
What happens on my first visit? What is the initial consultation?
On your first visit, a thorough history is taken when you tell us about your complaint as well as your medical history. This is followed by a physical examination. After that, we will diagnose and explain your condition and how we can help you. In the majority of cases, patients are treated on their first visit to the clinic.
